Training & Safety


Safety is our highest priority and mandatory safety training for all shipboard personnel and frequent ship visits by CNCo's Fleet Safety Manager help to ensure our officers and crew observe the very highest safety standards. Ongoing human resource development is essential to maintaining our corps of qualified, experienced and reliable personnel. To achieve this, Swire Pacific Ship Management provides regular and comprehensive training ashore and on board to enhance technical and safety knowledge.

Ballast tank simulations

Cadet Training

CNCo provides cadet training at a number of nautical colleges: at Zhoushan and Qingdao in Mainland China, in the Philippines, and at Odessa. CNCo regularly visits these facilities for quality assurance purposes and to update its custom-designed courses. Colleges used by CNCo boast the very best in training aids, including:

  • Bridge training simulators
  • Engine Room simulators
  • Classrooms and workshops with state-of-the-art equipment
  • A real-size coastal tanker, used for practical seamanship and shipboard familiarisation

 

SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea)

Man overboard drills

CNCo provides SOLAS training at a number of facilities, including Jimei Nautical College in Xiamen and the COSCO training centre in Shanghai. All the essential SOLAS elements are covered, including lifesaving, fire fighting and first aid.

 

 

Maritime English Training

Maritime English Training


CNCo provides tuition in Maritime English at Wuhan University. To date, 76 of CNCo's PRC officers and ratings have attended these intensive training sessions, which cater to a maximum class size of 10 students at one time. A brief graduation ceremony is held at the end of each course.

 

Marine Resource Management

Marine Resource Management courses are held at IDESS in Subic Bay, Philippines, and are overseen by CNCo's Fleet Safety Manager. The course is assessment-based and utilises three interactive bridge simulators, with pass or fail criteria applied in the final practical sessions.

Onboard Training

CNCo has invested in a comprehensive set of onboard training tools, including interactive videos and CBT (Computer-based Training), to ensure that ships’ crew are continually adding to their skills. In addition, CNCo regularly organises ‘Train the Trainer’ sessions, which assist our officers to develop effective communication techniques.

Environmental Awareness Training

In keeping with the company's Environmental Policy, CNCo Officers are required to attend a course at IDESS, Subic Bay, Philippines, designed to ensure they develop a high level of environmental awareness.
